Since 1986, Susan Borgo Alby has been designing and carefully handcrafting
beautiful jewelry. She has a Bachelor of Arts degree from the University
of Wisconsin-Milwaukee in Jewelry and Metalsmithing, and studied
fashion design and enameling at Mt. Mary College in Wauwatosa ,
Wisconsin
Her Graduate Gemologist diploma from the Gemological Institute of America fulfills a lifelong dream of knowing more about the colored stones and diamonds she loves. Full knowledge of the stones ensures wise buying decisions and proper design for the stones. She goes to gem dealers from around the world to carefully select precious and unique gemstones with which to create her enchanting designs.
She is totally dedicated to creating memorable and wearable works of art with magnificent metals and precious gemstones. She also creates enamel works, and is a metalsmith in gold, silver, and copper.
"Knowing the scientific and metaphysical aspects of the
stones I work with is a joy of my work. Attention to detail, technological
skill, and fine design are important to my work. My biggest thrill
is seeing the joy on a person's face when a special jewelry design
is brought to creation."
The name for her business came when she realized that her full
name, Susan Ann-Michelle Borgo Alby, made the acronym SAMBA. She
loves to dance, and the Brazilian dance name embodied for her the
"dance" of metal and gem, heart and hands that must happen
to create beautiful jewelry.
